Mac Set Default Program For Jpg

  1. Set Default Program To Open File
  2. Set Jpg As Default

I have a new Dell laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed. When I double click on a jpg file Paint opens despite the default program showing everywhere as Microsoft Photos. In Control Panel>>Set Associations it shows 'unknown application' against jpg.

When I try to change the program is shows Photos as the default and asks 'keep using this app?' OK makes no change. Maybe connected with the problem when I click on 'more apps' I only get a list of about 12. I can use Photos in any folder using 'Open With'. How can I get Photos to open when I double click on a jpg file?? Default Program not changing- Original Title. Hi, Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Change default programs (file associations) to open Outlook attachments by Open with feature If you can find out the same type of files (the CSV file in my example) in your Computer, please follow below steps to change the default programs or file associations about opening specified type of Outlook attachments. An administrative profile will be needed to change the file association via Folder Options. An alternate method is to right click an jpg or gif and select open with -> choose program, and choose the program you want.

I understand your concern and we will try to assist you the best way we can. Before we proceed I would like you to provide the information stated below: 1. Is this issue persistent only to.jpg file?

Have you tried to open any other picture with a different file extension? As of now, I would suggest that you convert one of your pictures into another file extension and check if the same error occurs. Also try checking from another User Account and check.

Hope this helps. Where are you Microsoft?? Problem still persists.

I created another user and all worked well for that user. Problem with original user remained and still remained after deletion of second user.

I therefore think the problem could be related to access control or file ownership????? However, I've worked around the problem by not using Photos and making Windows Photo Viewer the default program (which I think is currently better than Photos). Good unzip program for mac.

Note this required a regedit to add file types other than the tiff files that Microsoft has restricted Windows Photo Viewer to view.
